ChessGameWorld / Chesser

Your data, explained.

Computer play does not require an account. Online play uses the information needed to run a shared game. Analytics and advertising are separate choices.

Updated 11 October 2026 · Applies to this new portal and its Chesser game.

Who to contact

ChessGameWorld operates this portal. Contact info@chessgameworld.com about access, correction, export, deletion or an account problem. Identify the account or public game identifier involved. We may request enough information to verify ownership. Do not send a password, access token or private invitation code.

Browser storage and cookies

Chesser stores board/piece styles, language and play preferences, recent games, aggregate play statistics and processed game identifiers, practice progress and guest-room reconnection credentials in your browser. The portal remembers your analytics and advertising choices separately. Computer-game and practice history remain local; they are not automatically synchronized to an account or another device. The chess engine and analysis run on your device.

A first-party session cookie supports account authentication and request security. It is restricted to this site and cannot be read by page scripts. Removing site data clears local history and settings and may prevent a guest from returning as the same player. Logging out invalidates the account session; it does not delete the account or completed games.

Online, account and report data

  • Rooms store moves/position, nicknames and colors, time control and clocks, timestamps, connection state, result, offers and account references where used.
  • Server access credentials and invitation codes are stored as hashes. Your browser keeps the credential needed to reconnect. Share a room invitation only with the intended opponent.
  • Online rooms retain recent server-measured connection times and latency adjustments. The server decides accepted moves and results.
  • Accounts store an identifier, username/display name, password hash, creation/disabled state, ratings, game counts and win/draw/loss totals. Registration does not ask for an email address. Password verification uses a salted one-way hash derived from the password; readable passwords are not stored. Session tokens are hashed on the server.
  • Player reports contain game and reporter/target references, category, explanation, dates, review status and any operator review note.

Your opponent sees your nickname, moves, clocks and result, and account rating where displayed. Game details are available to authorized participants; knowing the public room identifier alone does not grant their access. Avoid private information in nicknames and report text. A pseudonym or hash does not make all these records anonymous.

Why information is used

These records run games and accounts, check access, reconnect players, find opponents and calculate ratings for separate time-control groups. Reports support human review of abuse and disputes. Request limits use a keyed hash derived from a network address to reduce abuse; the game application does not store the raw address in that limit record. The hosting provider may separately keep access logs with an IP address, requested URL, browser information and timestamps.

A player report is not an automatic cheating verdict, ban or rating refund. See the complaint procedure.

Retention

Browser records remain until removed by you or your browser. The server’s default cleanup rules below apply when the operator runs the supplied cleanup task; expiry alone does not guarantee immediate removal.

RecordDefault period
Unjoined waiting roomEligible after 24 hours without activity.
Completed game and its server historyEligible after 30 days without activity.
Other inactive game roomEligible after 90 days without activity.
Account / anonymous session30 days / 1 day; expired sessions are cleaned.
Open / reviewed player report90 days from submission / 180 days from review.
Rating-settlement event log90 days; aggregate account ratings and counts remain separately.
Request-limit recordShort limit window; eligible for cleanup after expiry.
Account, rating and aggregate statisticsWhile the account exists; deletion is requested through support.

Hosting logs, backups and Google or external-game records follow their respective operator’s settings. Removing live data does not immediately remove a backup. Report data may need to be kept for an ongoing dispute; contact us about a specific request.

Analytics and advertising

Optional Google Analytics remains disabled until you enable analytics in Privacy choices. Its page-address configuration excludes room query parameters and invitation fragments. If enabled, Google can receive device/browser and visit information according to its policies.

The single advertising position is below the game. Advertising has a separate optional setting and also requires the operator to configure the advertising service and its consent handling. This page and the support page do not load Google tracking or advertising scripts.

Change or withdraw either choice through the same settings link. Withdrawal stops subsequent optional loading; it does not remove information already sent or automatically delete cookies already set. Google explains its processing in its privacy policy and business data information. You can also use the Analytics opt-out add-on and Google ad controls.

Older games and external sites

Older games remain in the catalogue. An external game is loaded when you choose to open it. Its provider receives the connection and can use its own logs, storage or analytics under its own privacy rules. Local archived games and their local emulator do not by themselves load an external provider, although a game may contain external links. Linked pages and external ads are controlled by their respective operators.

Chess streams

The streamer directory loads the Twitch player only after you select a channel. Your browser then connects directly to Twitch to display its player and video. Twitch controls that player, its availability and its own use of information under its privacy notice. Closing or replacing the player removes its embedded window from this page.

Your favorite channels are saved in this browser, separately from your chess account. The public live-status service uses the site's configured channel list; it does not send your favorites or searches to Twitch. Public status may be delayed or unavailable. The directory does not imply a partnership with the listed creators.

Requests and children

Contact us to correct information or request access, export or deletion. Account requests require verification. For a guest game, send its public identifier rather than a secret token. This release has no automatic export/deletion button. We will explain which records can be removed and whether any must remain for a dispute or another applicable requirement.

A parent or guardian can contact us about a child’s information. Avoid using a child’s real name or contact information in a public nickname. Simply using the site is not presented as consent on a child’s behalf.

Changes

The date above identifies this notice. We update it when the service’s use of information changes. Previous policy text is preserved separately for historical reference.
